According to a CNBC report, Apple and Google have confirmed rumors that Apple will use Google’s Gemini AI to power the new version of Siri and other generative AI features. The companies released a joint statement confirming the partnership.
“Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology. These models will help power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri coming this year.
After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google’s AI technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users. Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple’s industry-leading privacy standards.”
Apple first showcased a generative AI version of Siri at WWDC 2024. In March 2025, the company announced it was working on a major Siri update but later revealed the release had been delayed, suggesting Apple was not yet ready to launch it publicly.
Earlier, in June 2025, multiple reports indicated Apple was considering partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic to enhance Siri. Currently, Siri can already tap into ChatGPT for certain queries as part of Apple Intelligence. By August 2025, rumors of an Apple-Google collaboration began circulating, which intensified significantly in November 2025 when it was reported that Apple might build the new Siri using a custom version of Gemini running on Private Cloud Compute servers, in a deal worth around $1 billion per year.
